What’s next for Tanzania’s Development?

On Wednesday 20th January we were joined by Chambi Chachage, Lecturer at Princeton University, as he shared an outline of key moments in Tanzania’s development, together with an assessment of the current situation.

Chachage was joined by:

Jesper Katomero – an experienced researcher on water sector governance and accountability based in Tanzania. He is currently coordinating a three year multi-country accountability for water research programme involving Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Zambia under Shahidi wa Maji- An NGO dealing with water issues based in Morogoro. His work has been funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research—Science for Global Development (NW-WOTRO), Hewlett Foundation, DFID and GIZ. My normative orientation is “working with the grain” of institutions and organizations in the global South.

Aikande Kwayu – a Development Consultant at Bumaco Ltd. (Tanzania) and a Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison . www.aikandekwayu.com

Ruth Carlitz – an assistant professor of Political Science at Tulane University (USA), where she teaches courses on International Development and African Politics. Her research looks at government responsiveness from the ‘top down’ (how governments distribute public goods) and the ‘bottom up’ (what citizens and non-governmental organizations can do to promote transparency and accountability). In addition to her academic research, she has worked on evaluations commissioned by organizations including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Twaweza, the International Budget Partnership, the Institute of Development Studies, and the UK’s Department for International Development. www.ruthcarlitz.com

Constantine Manda – the Co-founder & Director at the Impact Evaluation Lab, Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF).

The talk was then followed by a general discussion and a chance to ask questions.

Registration was free for everyone via Eventbrite here. Thank you to all who joined us for a very fascinating and enjoyable evening!
