Neema Meremo Samuel from Hope for Girls and Women Tanzania took part in a UN workshop on Gender Statistics in Kigali, Rwanda in August 2018. Hope for Girls and Women is the NGO headed by Rhobi Samwely, which operates safe houses for girls fleeing FGM.
The workshop’s aim was to identify new and emerging opportunities to fill in gender data gaps within the framework of tracking progress with the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as Agenda 2063 of the Africa We Want.
There were five presentations including one on the Status of Gender Statistics in Pathfinder Countries which include Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda by the respective UN Women representatives.
Four groups were organized and Neema was able to participate in group 2 discussing citizen generated data. Neema was also the rapporteur for the group. Download conference documents:
