Janet Chapman, BTS Trustee and TDT Campaigns Manager and Project Officer explains why she set up the crowdsourced mapping project Crowd2Map, and how it is helping in the fight to end FGM and developing maps of rural Tanzania where we work.

- Having better maps helped prevent 2,257 girls from being cut this year.
- Through recruiting more than 1500 online volunteers and some 200 local mappers, more than 16,000 square kilometres have been mapped, including 5 towns and 175 villages and hamlets.
- Local legal officers are coming on board, recognising the potential for the data
- Techniques such as overlaying population density to water point locations can inform on the relative need of applications.
